Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at tmcounselingcenter@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Therapy is an experience that is tailored to your individual needs and unique goals created within the treatment planning process. During the initial session, often referred to as an “intake,” you will be asked details and questions about your medical, social, and emotional history. We will discuss your goals for therapy on a regular basis. We believe in open communication on this topic, because if something isn’t working, let’s change it up!

Life is filled with complicated and challenging situations at times. It is likely you or your family have navigated difficult times on your own before, but it is important to know that seeking additional support is a strength. People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some benefits that can be seen from therapy can include:

  • Identifying and exploring patterns in your life that you would like to improve or change
  • Improving overall self-esteem and confidence in different areas of your life
  • Learning about yourself on a deeper level and exploring values/identity
  • Regulating emotions and learning ways to manage overwhelming anger, grief, or anxiety
  • Learning new ways of coping with life, work, relationship, or academic stress

We are considered as in-network providers with BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Health Advocate EAP, and Interface Behavioral Health EAP. If your insurance is not listed, you may have out-of-network (OON) benefits on your current health plan. We are happy to assist you in inquiring with your insurance about those coverage details and filing the claims on your behalf.

When beginning therapy, it is important to build trust and mutual rapport. Therefore, it is helpful to meet for weekly sessions to work together in finalizing the goals and direction of our focus. Once improvement is reported or observed, your therapist will discuss with you about reducing session frequency to bi-weekly or twice per month.

It is important to know that what you share in therapy, stays in therapy. This practice of ensuring privacy of the details and information you share is called confidentiality. Licensed therapists are legally and ethically bound to confidentiality. The instances in which a therapist is obligated to break confidentiality would be:

  • If you are in imminent danger of harming yourself or someone else
  • A minor child or elderly adult is reported to be in danger or if suspected abuse or neglect is present
  • Your files are subpoenaed and court ordered to be submitted to a judge
